From Lisa’s e-mail, prohibited herps reportedly include: poison-arrow frogs; giant salamanders; marine toad; crocodilians; marine turtles; alligator snapping turtles; terrapins; giant tortoises; boas; pythons; indigo snakes; venomous colubrids; vipers; rattlesnakes and coral snakes.

Ottawa

Prohibited herps: Chelydridae (snapping turtles); Iguanids, Teiids, Varanids (monitors) over 1 m in length; boas and pythons over 2 m in length, other snakes over 3 m in length; venomous reptiles; crocodilians.

Peterborough

Prohibited herps: Venomous reptiles and crocodilians. Boas and pythons require a permit, and it appears that other nonvenomous snakes may also need to be identified to the City Clerk—there is a fee. Text of by-law.
