Species Descriptions and Trip Reports

New Species Descriptions and Trip Reports sections. Each species description page will eventually have some text and additional material, but for right now the pages have links to photos of the herps in question in our photo galleries. A new trip report I wrote for The OHS News is now online; it's basically an expansion of the report I wrote for my weblog and for the OARA newsletter.

The participants list has its own page now, and is more detailed.

More structural changes to come, particularly to the front page and overall navigation of the site.

Structural Revisions

Some structural revisions to the site going on right now. Expect things to break occasionally.

Dave vs. Bullfrog

The second movie is now up. "Dave vs. Bullfrog" is a little lighter, a little more frivolous, than the last one. It's 90 seconds (and 5.5 megabytes) of master herp catcher Dave catching a bullfrog in a canal on the Island. I've done a bit of audio dubbing this time. Have fun!

Netscape 4

Users of Netscape 4.x browsers will find that Robyn's photo gallery doesn't work for them. This is a bug specific to Netscape 4 browsers. So upgrade yer browser, already; Netscape 4 is five SEVEN years old and it's never rendered HTML properly.

Photographic Equipment

Attention field trip participants! Note the Photographic Equipment page. If you've got photos posted here, contact me and tell me what camera, etc., you used. [Update 5/27/04: The page is now defunct, but the camera gets mentioned on the photo pages, if I know what it is. So tell me.]

Fox Snakes on Pelee Island — Non-streaming Version

I've given up on streaming for the time being. As a result, I've loaded a new version of "Fox Snakes on Pelee Island." This version only differs in that it lacks the data required by streaming servers, and is as a result smaller by 1.9 megabytes, which should make it that much easier for you to download. Go nuts.

I've also prepared a larger, higher-frame-rate version. It's 49 megabytes, but I'll burn it to a CD if you're interested. Send me an e-mail and I'll burn you a CD. (Field trip participants only, though I may make exceptions.)

I anticipate two shorter, smaller movies to follow, larger versions of which can also be put on the CD.

Technological hiccups: I can't get QuickTime Streaming to work. In the meantime, you can view the movie "Fox Snakes on Pelee Island" in non-streaming format until I get it sorted out. The movie is 17.6 megabytes, which would take well over an hour to download over a 56K modem, so I recommend that only visitors with highspeed access (cable, DSL) try to view this movie for now.

I've finished the first movie. It's 9:45 in length and deals exclusively with fox snakes. It should be online for viewing shortly, provided there aren't any technological hiccups. It will be in QuickTime Streaming format, so those of you without highspeed Internet will still be able to see something without having to download all 17.6 MB of video. Meanwhile, if you don't have QuickTime 5 yet, get it now. (Don't get sidetracked by the QuickTime 6 Public Preview on that page. Ignore that.)

Correction: Crystal's photo gallery should be Crystal and Jamie's photo gallery — they share the camera but can't remember who took what.

Crystal's photo gallery isn't complete yet, but it's got racer pictures!
